When I started off on my morning walk, it was a bright and sunny day with no hint of rain. I walked through the hills and valleys enjoying the beauty around me — the wind whipping up a wonderful dance of leaves and the crescendo of crickets chirping. Then, without warning, the weather changed, bringing a heavy rush of showers. Disappointed that the rain had disrupted my walk, I ran to take shelter in a small building by the wayside. As the rain continued, an elderly man joined me to escape the rain. We began to talk about the town where we lived. As a longtime resident of the town, he recounted many interesting stories of how it had changed over the years. When the rain stopped, we parted. While walking home I realized that just as the rain had come unannounced, new perspectives about life can arrive in unexpected ways.Life is unpredictable, bringing difficulties to each of us. At first problems seem a burden, and we might want to curse our circumstances or blame God. Sometimes roadblocks lead to small miracles — or at least insights — that can shape our understanding, helping us to know God in a new way and to trust God more fully.
